The Position
Delivery of health care services in this location is a unique and exciting challenge. The health service currently has two full-time Specialist Paediatrician vacancies.

The roles will assist the Director of Paediatrics in the provision of clinical services to paediatric inpatients and outpatients and clinically manage, on a day-to-day basis, the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the provision of appropriate paediatric patient care. The roles are supported by a PHO, Registrar and a multidisciplinary team of nurses. The on-call is 1 in 3.

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills extending across the broad range of paediatrics, with an ability to work autonomously. You will be required to conduct outreach clinics and a driving license is essential.

In this role you will gain exposure to indigenous healthcare and experience a varied case-mix unlikely to be encountered in a major city. There is great potential to make a real difference in this health service.

The Hospital
This Level 4 hospital has a total of 80 beds and offers primary, secondary and community health services in addition to specialist services such as anaesthetics, paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery and obstetrics & gynaecology. The hospital also hosts a range of clinics in speciality and sub-speciality services. The Royal Flying Doctor Service base provides rural retrievals and transfers.

There is a 10 bed dedicated paediatric ward, and a 3 bed nursery. The paediatric ward is currently undergoing renovation which is due to be completed in early 2016.

The Location
You will be living in a town, considered by many as the capital of northwest Queensland, located just 200 kilometres from the Northern Territory border. Over 23,000 people enjoy living in this modern community and it is an ideal location for the single professional or young couple. Over half the population is under the age of 35 years old and the majority of employees at the hospital have reported that their social life increased exponentially when they moved to the town.

There is a great range of shopping facilities including local markets and there is no shortage of nightlife with a vast range of venues offering live music, dining, theatre and entertainment. Here you can explore the outback garden, fossicking for fossils or go beneath the surface in an underground mine. Housing prices are competitive and locally there are 35 education facilities, including state and private schools, TAFE, special education, School of the Air and MIGATE.

Make the move to a town that brings out the adventurous spirit in everyone, with ample places to fish, camp, four wheel drive or enjoy an outback sunset.

Essential Criteria
To be successful in applying for this position you must hold FRACP or be close to completing your fellowship and be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. You must also meet the English language proficiency requirements. If you are unsure if you meet the selection criteria please forward a copy of your most recent resume and I will assess your eligibility and will advise you of your options.
