This fantastic opportunity is for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a multidisciplinary team including 14 medical doctors. You will be part of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) weekly programme and a weekly local peer group, along with providing supervision to registrars and junior psychiatry doctors in order to assist with their training and development. Whilst providing clinical leadership to the team, you will also provide assessment and treatment to patients and strive to develop and improve the quality of the service.
The hospital consists of 120 inpatient beds across six wards – surgical, acute psychiatric unit, medical, maternity, paediatrics, and a high dependency unit. Other services on offer include home and community care, intensive care, pathology, pharmacy and rehabilitation.
The acute psychiatric ward consists of 27 open ward beds and 6 secure beds. Providing treatment on a short-term basis, the team works in close collaboration with all interface areas including Community Mental Health and Non Government Organisations (NGOs). It is a multidisciplinary team including Medical, Nursing, Social and Occupational therapists.
You will be living in one of Western Australia’s largest towns. Located 2 hours’ drive south of Perth, this major business centre offers all the benefits of city-living including commercial opportunities, facilities, education and attractions mixed into a lush seaside setting with a country pace.
Many of the attractions are nature-based, due to the temperate climate and picturesque sandy beaches. Here you can spend your spare time fishing, swimming, surfing, windsurfing or snorkelling in the beautiful clear blue water. Another option is to take a trip to see wild dolphins in their natural habitat. If you prefer to stay on dry land then just a short half an hour drive takes you to Western Australia’s premiere wine region, where you can go to relax in the wineries and experience some of the famous, local produce.
To be successful in applying for this position you must hold FRANZCP or be close to obtaining fellowship and be eligible for General Specialist registration with AHPRA. Psychiatrists with the equivalent overseas qualification, who are eligible for registration for AHPRA are also encouraged to apply.
