This state-of-the-art facility is seeking a newly appointed FACEM or an experienced Emergency Medicine Specialist to support the Director of Emergency Medicine by ensuring the delivery of high quality clinical. In this position, you will be involved in the education of medical staff and students, allied health professionals and interested community groups or nursing staff. You will also be required to participate in patient safety, audit, research and service planning activities. You will get hands on experience and exposure to an exciting skill mix of cases including trauma, marine stings, tropical medicine, toxicology and venomology.
The hospital is the main referral facility for the district which serves a population of approximately 135,000 people. The hospital deals with accidents and retrievals from surrounding islands, mining and farming areas, making it a central and vital facility for the region. The ED department has two resus bays, three high dependency bays, 20 consult rooms, a Short Stay Unit and Fast Track area with three consult rooms. With a large range of clinical presentations, 21% of cases are paediatric.
This tropical city, with a rich and colourful history, is known for its picture perfect ‘post card’ beaches and laid back environment. It has a good balance of modern facilities and amenities including a wide range of sporting facilities, including tennis courts, an Olympic pool and three excellent golf courses. As for water based activities, the many reefs that dot the coastline are a key attraction for the snorkelling and diving enthusiast.
Child-care centres in the area are dedicated to the safety and stimulation of children and the schools are all well-equipped and provide the highest level of education. With an excellent reputation for achieving outstanding academic results, there is the choice of State, Catholic and private schools, as well as schools for children with special needs.
To be successful in applying for this position you must be a FACEM with specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
