The Colac medical clinic is seeking a full-time GP for 8-9 sessions per week, a vacancy has opened up due to a retirement of a doctor. A typical day in this clinic would include general consulting with minor procedures and CDM. An average number of 500 patients are seen per week, shared amongst 6 doctors (3 followed) supported by 4 practice nurses. VMO and On-call is required.

The successful GP will be well supported with relocation costs and an induction and orientation that will ensure a smooth transition to the practice and to the friendly and welcoming community. Ongoing mentorship is provided by our current procedural GP, who has had supervision roles previously.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration – General or Specialist

  • Australian GP experience and hospital experience

  • Accident and Emergency Skills

  • Obstetrics Skills (desirable not essential)

  • Ability to do VMO – Done on a 1 week block for public patients, currently 1/17.

  • Ability to do on Call – Internal phone triage 1/6 & Urgent Care HMO supervision 1/17.

The Package:

  • Expected annual earning around $200,000 – $300,000k

  • Guaranteed Income period

  • On call allowance $300 per week day + billings for patients seen

  • On call allowance $1500 per weekend and public holidays (must stay in urgent care noon to 8pm) all call backs outside these hours at paid at $200 per hour

  • VMO Payment $400 (shift is 8am to 10am)

  • Financial Relocation support (subject to eligibility)

  • Eligible for RLRP, RTVS, AGPT and ACRRM Independent Pathway

  • Ability to support upskilling in interested courses (Subject to availability through RWAV)

Practice Details:

This mixed billing clinic is located in Colac, fully accredited (AGPAL), computerized (Medical Director) and a teaching practice accredited by MCCC. The 3 vocationally registered doctors share mentorship of the registrars, DEAKIN students and RLRP doctors who are progressing towards fellowship.

This clinic belongs to a larger group practice, with 10 consulting rooms and a treatment room where services such as lesion removal, wound care, IUD, diathermy are provided. Other services provided by the practice include Home Medicine Reviews, Aged Care Services, and Onsite Pathology service. Easy access to visiting specialists and allied health, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Paediatrics, Urology, Psychology, Podiatry Audiology and Sleep Studies are also available. The main patient health issues that impact on the practice are typical for a rural community with an emphasis on age related problems.

The practice hours are Monday– Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm and Saturday 9 am – 12.00 pm.

Colac is situated between Geelong and Camperdown on a huge rich volcanic plain. The area is mainly used for agricultural and pastoral purposes and is surrounded by many large lakes and volcanic craters.

Colac fronts the southern shores of Lake Colac – the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. This lake is popular with swimmers and boating enthusiasts, and includes a number of foreshore walking trails, jetties and boat ramps. There is a bird reserve in the wetlands off The Esplanade which attracts a diverse range of bird life to the lake.

The Colac Botanic Gardens are perched on an elevated 12 hectare allotment above the lake and were established in 1910. The gardens contain many historical trees, shady picnic areas, a playground and cafe. From the gardens, scenic views across Lake Colac can be enjoyed.
