General Practitioner

The general Practitioner provides a general clinical Service in Robinvale to the local Aboriginal communities and assists in developing and delivering appropriate health programs. This position has a high degree of professional independence.

  • Undertake general clinical work to examine, counsel and treat clients
  • Be flexible with appointments and walk-ins
  • Dispense medication and provide relevant information concerning medication and treatment
  • Attend and participate in general staff and Health Service meetings as required, providing monthly reports on meeting the objectives of the program
  • Act at all times in a professional manner in accordance with the policies and practices of the Health Service
  • Ensure the confidentiality of medical information at all times
  • Conduct and/or sign off on adult health checks (MBS 715, 710, 704 and 706) and child health checks (MBS 708) in keeping with the targets outlined in the MVAC Action Plan

  • Education, Qualifications and Experience: ESSENTIAL

    Experience in communicating effectively with Aboriginal people, handling cultural and health issues in a sensitive manner.

    A minimum of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) qualification or equivalent, and registered by the Victorian Medical Board

    Extensive and Varied medical experience and an understanding of Aboriginal health issues and trends

    Experience in developing community health programs including the ability to provide health education and information sessions to staff, clients and the community

  • Performance Standards:

    An effective General Practitioner Service at the Murray Valley Aboriginal Health Service

    Achieving the targets and measures set out annually in the SDRF Action Plan, by carrying out the strategies in co-operation with the Health Service team, specifically in relation to the GP services

    Satisfactorily carry out all relevant responsibilities of a General Practitioner, in keeping with the policies and procedures of the Murray Valley Aboriginal Health Service.

     

    Conditions of Employment:

    Locum General Practitioners are engaged on a sessional basis

    Other General Practitioners may be engaged on a 12 month or permanent contract
