GP Locum: Rushworth
- : RWAV (Rural Workforce Agency - Victoria)
- : 29-Jun-2018
- : Rushworth VIC 3612
GP sessions only – no VMO/on call requirement
Working at solo clinic
Aged care, farming and general medicine
No weekends required
Required dates: 2 July -28 September 2018 for 2 weeks at a time
Practice hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Fees: Negotiable fee per day or 70% billings. Three-bedroom house is provided and is within walking distance to the clinic. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Role: Experienced locum required to cover sick leave for solo general practice. There is no nursing staff, so the GP will need to take bloods and do all checks. Patient demographics include aged care, general medicine and families. GP sessions only.
The solo practice has two consulting rooms and one treatment room, where all surgical procedures and immunisations are performed. The clinic supports the local 15-bed nursing home and 34-bed hostel on as-needed-basis. (The GP locum is not required to do this.) There is a small local 12-bed hospital but the locum does not need to do this cover.
A psychologist visits three days fortnightly and all other specialists and allied health needs are referred directly to the hospital.
The patient demographic is varied and consistent with other rural communities: an ageing population, farm and work safety accidents and injuries, skin cancer and the health and social impacts of prolonged drought.
The clinic is AGPAL accredited and fully computerised using Medical Director and Pracsoft.
Rushworth has the advantage of being in close proximity to the larger rural centres of Shepparton and Bendigo. Rushworth’s gloriously wide and elegant High Street is an Urban Conservation Area of Special Significance designated by the National Trust. Today the best thing any visitor can do is take a walk along the street and carefully read the ‘Walk Through Time’ community project plaques on many of the buildings. These plaques offer a unique opportunity to experience what the street was like in the heyday of the goldrushes. At the intersection of High and Parker Streets, is the Rushworth Museum, located in the former Rushworth Mechanics Institute. It contains over 4,000 items connected with local history.
The Bakery in the Main Street is recognised as a superb cafe (good coffee) with a wide range of pastries and sandwiches and there is a fish and chip shop café. Hotel does meals. IGA supermarket is on Main Street.
