GP Locum: Sea Lake

Position Description:

  • Solo practices, working with 1.5 GPs across two sites

  • GP sessions and aged care

  • Explore the Murray region and Mildura

Required Dates: 6 August 2018 – ongoing, minimum 2 weeks at a time or can offer 3-6 month contracts

Practice Hours: Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm,  ( with am ward rounds and some on-call on roster , however only 10 beds currently so very minimal),

Fees: $1400 + GST per day (Inc. On Call), with $500 on weekends for On Call only (Non worked). Will reimburse mileage/kms or flight ticket with pick up from Mildura airport and car provided.

Role: GP locum is required to provide sessional care , nursing home and hostels at Sea Lake with one day per week also at Ouyen. Typical rural practices supporting farming and mostly ageing communities, and well supported by excellent nursing and care staff.

Practice Details:

Mallee track Sea Lake is situated within a newly built Hospital facility comprises of 4 acute beds and aged care beds (9) and has two consulting rooms and a treatment room. One part-time doctor is supported by a Division 1 nurse Wednesdays to Fridays who assists with minor surgery procedures and performs blood testing, suture removal and many other medical duties.

Mallee track Ouyen is a well established clinic attached to the regional hospital which comprises of a small acute care centre, residential aged care and hostel (40 beds). After hour phone calls are triaged by a nurse at the local hospital and on call doctor only contacted for urgent cases.

It is a computerised modern practice fully equipped with four consulting rooms, and the current GP is supported by practice nurse, practice manager , administration and reception staff.

The clinics are well supported by specialist and allied health services including visiting physiotherapist, dietitian, podiatrist and two psychologists.

About Ouyen:

The town of Ouyen is located just over 100 km south of Mildura in the far north-west of Victoria. Ouyen is situated within the Mallee grain belt and sheep grazing land. Grain loading facilities and massive grain silos are a feature of the town, located along the railway line. The Big Mallee Root, located on the Calder Highway, is the largest Mallee stump in Australia and serves as a tribute to early settlers who cleared the land of drought-resistant eucalyptus trees to make way for agricultural activities.

The commercial centre of Ouyen is located in Oke Street and includes the council offices, a variety of shops, and the Local History Research Centre which houses a collection of books and historical records in the old court house.

Ouyen is located in the heart of the vast national parks of the Mallee region. To the south-west is the Wyperfield National Park with its network of lake beds. In the north-west is the Murray-Sunset National Park, characterized by its wide open landscapes and isolation. And to the north is the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park is 34km to the north and borders the Murray River. With its wildlife, bush trails and springtime wildflower displays is a favoured destination for bird watchers, bush walkers and campers to admire a variety of native fauna and the extraordinary mallee fowl.

Sea Lake is situated on the southern shores of Lake Tyrrell a unique salt lake and is host to Mallee reptiles, kangaroos, emus, white-faced chats, and an inland gulley.

Sea Lake is in the heart of Australia’s “wheat belt”, and is the main township for a number of wheat farms in the region. Sea Lake is located in fairly close proximity to several major national parks, including Wyperfeld National Park and Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. To the south of Sea Lake lies the fresh water lake – Green Lake. This lake has served the surrounding communities well over the years for water sports recreation and swimmers, boating, windsurfing and water skiing and is generous in offering a feed of fresh fish or yabbies.

The small rural township has all the basic amenities and bakery, supermarket and cafes.
