Position Description:

Required dates: 13 August – 4 January 2018 any 2 weeks cover upwards or ongoing coverage.

Fees: $1200 per day GP sessions only and up to $2000 with VMO/On-call inclusive. Accommodation and travel is provided.

Role: GP locum required for GP sessions and on-call for hospital in-patients and VMO ward rounds. This busy urgent care department at Stawell Regional Health has 29 acute beds, six day surgery and a 35 bed nursing home. After-hours calls level 1 & 2 are triaged by an experienced nurse, significantly reducing the number of call-outs. On-call roster is between 2-4 nights and 1:4 weekend. The patient demographics are of a broad age profile, though generally over 50 and of lower socio-economic status. Prevalent health issues impacting the practice are aged care, drug and alcohol and child and maternity related, but this is known to change during peak tourist times.

Practice Details:

The Stawell Medical Centre is an accredited, computerised teaching practice with well-equipped consulting rooms and a state of the art treatment room where services such as lesion removal, INRs, ECGs and spirometry are performed.  A group practice currently with 4 part-time doctors are supported by nursing and practice staff. The practice has VMO rights to Stawell Regional Health where services include acute care, emergency medicine, aged and disability services, psychology, Indigenous health, O&G, mental health, social work, dietetics, cardiac rehabilitation, OT, physiotherapy, podiatry and speech therapy. A large number of visiting specialist services are also available in Stawell, and doctors cover patients from both the clinics in town.

About Stawell: Stawell (population 6500) is a vibrant community at the eastern end of the Wimmera and Grampians regions. The Grampians are an extraordinarily rugged mountain outcrop at the western edge of the Great Dividing Range. The 167,000 hectare Grampians National Park is one of the state’s most popular holiday destinations and is ideal for bush walking, camping, fishing, rock climbing and a host of other outdoor activities. Stawell has excellent sporting facilities and clubs – football, cricket, athletics, lawn bowls, golf, racing and hunt, tennis, swimming and fishing.
