Obstetrics Clinical Lead

Position Description:


The primary function of your role as Clinical Lead, Obstetrics is to coordinate and develop the delivery of appropriate Obstetric GP training posts in rural and regional Victoria and provide on-going support to the medical practitioners in those training posts.


RWAV is seeking expressions of interest from GP Obstetricians to become RWAV’s Clinical Lead for Obstetrics to support practicing GPs. This dynamic role will involve:

  • development and coordination of appropriate obstetric training posts across rural and regional Victoria that lead to the award of Advanced DRANZCOG;

  • provision of on-going support to medical practitioners in the training posts (face to face, video and teleconferencing)

  • contribution to and monitoring of the education programs, to ensure the obstetric posts deliver training mapped to the curriculum for the Advanced DRANZCOG.

Key Responsibilities:

Key aspects of this role are:

    • provision of curriculum oversight to ensure College requirements are met;

    • monitor training across posts to ensure consistency;

    • support and contribute to the accreditation of Obstetrics training posts;

    • evaluation of the training posts for Advanced DRANZCOG;

    • establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders including but not limited to directors of hospital obstetrics departments, RTO Medical Educators, Conjoint Committee for the Diploma of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ACRRM and RACGP-Rural, training post Supervisors, regional and rural health services;

    • participate in the selection and interview process of candidates

    • provide individualised training advice to ensure trainee progress in accordance with DRANZCOG curriculum requirements, College standards and contractual obligations.


 Essential Criteria:

  • Full unconditional Specialist Vocational Registration in general practice registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

  • Hold the Advanced DRANZCOG or equivalent

  • Currency of clinical practice in Obstetrics

  • Demonstrated sound understanding of educational principles and methods of teaching

  • Understand the requirements of Obstetrics training and be able to give accurate training advice to trainees and potential trainees and assess suitability for training posts

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills in managing competing priorities in a busy environment

  • Strong knowledge of existing networks and how Obstetrics training operates across rural and regional Victoria

  • Proven experience in building strong, positive relationships
