Wimmera Foot and Ankle Clinic are seeking a passionate qualified Podiatrist or new graduate to compliment their team of professionals and service the increased demand with the region. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from the three established and experienced podiatrists, provide outreach clinics due to strong patient demand and significantly diversify their skill set undertaking a comprehensive induction and mentor program.

Key responsibilities:

Patient care

  • Delivery of podiatry treatment in the clinic setting, nursing homes, hospital and at the client’s own home

  • Conduct thorough assessments of all new clients and at appropriate intervals, and document clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment plans

  • Provision of general podiatry treatments including: nails and callus reduction, enucleation of corns, plantar wart treatments

  • Conduct biomechanical management (Orthotic Therapy) as required inclusive of: visual and video gait analysis, foot casting/3D scanning and prescription and fabrication of orthotic devices and supply of proprietary devices

  • Perform nail surgery, administering local anaesthetic as required

  • Provide wound management when appropriate

  • Ensure health education to all clients, in particular those with diabetes and arthritis

  • Advise clients on footwear which best suits their need and foot shape

  • Prescribe on preventative measures/advise on exercise and rehabilitative programs

  • Where appropriate provide extracorporeal shockwave treatment, provide foot mobilization therapy, dry needling and prolotherapy

Clinical and practice standards

  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of current trends with podiatry profession and participate in regular professional development and undertake the requirements of the Accredited Podiatrist Program of the Australasian Podiatry Council or similar

Professional liaison and communication

  • Make appropriate referrals for pathology and radiology and follow up on results with patients and GP/specialists as required

Practice management

  • Maintain timely and accurate medical records, care plans and treatment plans; completion of daily records on each patient within a 24 hour period

  • Maintain a clean and safe/infection controlled environment

  • Notify staff of low stock levels

Practice Development:

  • Promote the podiatry service to the community; health services, schools, community groups, sports centres, shoe shops etc.

  • Participate in marketing activities to build/maintain the client base, in consultation with the practice plan

An induction and mentor program will be provided for all new employees to provide further support and training to provide the best outcome for patients and understand how to best run a consult. The induction program will be for a minimum of 3 weeks before treating fully unsupervised and supported and is varied vase by case following dependant on the individuals competency and confidence in specific areas. Consultation times will be extended during this training period and weekly sessions with mentor with be set as standard after this induction period is completed. An induction for a new graduate would be expected to be at list 6 weeks in duration.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Podiatry (or equivalent qualification)

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Recent experience in private practice and/or community care (highly desirable)

Clinic opening hours: 9.00am – 5.30pm

The private practice work covers a full range of Podiatric scope. The practice is general and requires knowledge and proficiency in all areas of Podiatric practice. Cross consultation and referral between practitioners would be expected for most effective patient care.

Accredited Laser Therapy training and Extracorporeal Shockwave training in house provided.
