This is an exciting opportunity to encounter a broad range of clinical experiences in a combined public and private position with a Cardiology team in the Northern Territory. There is a high percentage of cardiovascular and rheumatic heart disease in the young and diverse population which contributes to a varied, interesting and satisfying work environment.
The public hospital are seeking a general cardiologist to join the current workforce of 5 adult cardiologists, 1 paediatric cardiologist, 4 Registrars and 3 RMO’s supported by 4 senior cardiac nurse consultants. Diagnostic services include: Exercise stress testing, Holter monitoring, transthoracic and trans-oesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiogram, CT coronary angiogram. The campus also has a cathlab where coronary angiogram and angiogram and PCI are performed. Loop recorders, permanent pacemakers (including BiV pacing) and defibrillators are implanted in the cathlab and the state of the art new Hybrid Theatre. Nuclear cardiac perfusion imaging services are also available on-site.
This position also provides the opportunity to join a well-established, private cardiology practice to provide cardiac diagnostic services including echocardiography and diagnostic coronary angiography and PCI, to public patients in the Northern Territory. The private facility provides a range of non-invasive cardiac investigations including a dedicated and new Toshiba Aquillion ONE (320 Slice) for CT coronary angiogram.
In this role, you would be expected to participate in a regular on call roster and ward rounds, student and junior doctor education, clinics at regional hospitals and Outreach Cardiology clinics at remote Aboriginal communities. Collaborative research opportunities are also available.
The public hospital is a 345 bed tertiary facility which is designated as the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre and a teaching hospital affiliated with Flinders University. The catchment area is vast, and includes urban communities, regional hospitals and remote Aboriginal communities. The hospital services a population of at least 150,000 with patients also being transferred from northern Western Australia and Timor. The hospital has a modern, fully equipped 9 bed coronary care unit which also has facilities for non-invasive respiratory support.
The 100 bed private Hospital is co-located and has an angiography suite and a coronary care/HDU with telemetry beds with 24/7 RMO’s support for inpatients.
