The Central Coast is the tantalizing strip bridging the region between Sydney and Newcastle. Located on the Tasman Sea coast north of Sydney, the area extends between the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, stretching all the way to the southern end of Lake Macquarie, and the Watagan Mountains in the west. With an array of bays, beaches, inlets, lakes and hinterland areas, the Central Coast, offers all the delights of an idyllic coastal locale.

For thousands of years, this region was inhabited by Aboriginal people of the Guringai and Darkinjung tribes. They were some of the first to come in contact with British settlers. Currently, the Central Coast is a peri-urban region with an estimated population of 325,082. It is reputed to be the third largest populated area in New South Wales, and the ninth largest in Australia. The primary urban cluster of the region is wrapped around the northern shore of Brisbane Water and includes the Coast’s largest population centre, Gosford. Large numbers of people residing in the southern part of the region commute to Sydney for work, on a daily basis.

The Central Coast has a resilient economy and the significant employment sectors include services, tourism, manufacturing, finance, building, retail and industrial.
