TSA Youthlink- AOD/Mental Health Clinician

(Aboriginal Youth, Alcohol and Other Drug and Mental Health Program)

Location: South West Sydney/ Southern Highlands

One FT Position: 5 days (38 hrs) per week

The Salvation Army (Youthlink) has developed an innovative program which works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. The program offers psychological therapy to young people (aged 12-25 years) who present with AOD and mental health concerns. This program is distinct in its work with comorbid AOD/Mental Health presentations, as well as its engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

We are seeking a clinician who shows appreciation for indigenous diversity and is willing to apply their clinical skills towards the recovery journey of aboriginal young people. Your role as a clinician will involve the following: carrying out psychosocial assessments, offering evidence based psychological interventions, client record keeping and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, their families and communities.

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:

1)     Tertiary qualifications in Psychology

2)     Registration with AHPRA and/or the eligibility to be registered with AHPRA.

3)     Minimum of one-year clinical experience involving the assessment and treatment of mental health presentations (experience in AOD treatment is desirable)

4)     Ability to provide culturally responsive and inclusive treatment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth

5)     Demonstrated understanding of AOD and mental health issues and their impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth

6)     Clinical Skills in utilising evidence-based intervention modalities (e.g. Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, CBT etc.)

7)     Demonstrated experience in risk assessments and interventions (including suicidal risks and mandatory reporting)

8)     High degree of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience using electronic management systems for client information

9)     Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment and without direct supervision when required

10)  Willingness to take part in professional development opportunities required to maintain skills for the role

11)  current NSW class C driver’s licence for this position
