About the role

VMCH are a progressive Catholic not-for-profit organisation and have been providing services in residential aged care, retirement living, disability services and specialist education, for over a century. VMCH operates in over 50 locations, with more than 2,600 employees and 600 volunteers maintaining our 24/7 service to 7,600 vulnerable people across Victoria.

St Paul's College is a non-systematic Catholic school, providing education for children aged 5-18 years with a wide range of needs including intellectual, physical, profound multiple and sensory disabilities, autism and complex medical needs.  Our highly skilled multi-disciplinary team includes, teachers, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupations therapists, psychologist and school nurse. 

Duties

  • To collaborate with teaching teams, allied health and families in relation to learning, social and behavioral issues using the teacher and allied partnerships cycle.
  • Implementation of the schools positive behavior support plans as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develop and support effective interventions on classroom management strategies and parenting skills which promote psychological well-being, positive social, emotional, and behavioral development, and the best possible educational outcomes for out students.
  • Provide counselling, social skills training, behavior management and other interventions in order to improve learning and behavior
  • Working closely with teaching teams and allied health staff, to assist in the evaluation of cognitive skills, learning aptitudes, social skills, self-help skills, emotional development, behavioral functioning, career and vocational goals of students.

Skills and experience

  • Registration as a Psychologist by AHPRA and Psychology Board of Australia
  • An understanding of psycho-educational assessments
  • Knowledge and skills in the development of behavioral interventions within a positive behavior framework
  • Excellent skills and experience as well as a passion for helping and working with students with disabilities
