Joining a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, you will contribute to the provision of safe, best practice-based, cost effective and consumer-focused clinical services within the Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS). Utilising your clinical experience, knowledge and skills, you will assume a clinical leadership role within the mental health service. Patients may have complex psychosocial and medical comorbidities and in particular the service cares for those with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. A range of therapeutic services are offered including access to the clozapine clinic. Some have challenging behaviours and care is provided with a least restrictive approach. Liaison with non-government community based services, general practitioners and aged care facilities will be an important focus to maintain flow of patients to meet community demands. As part of your role, you will be actively involved in teaching and providing guidance to Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs), interns and medical students and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health staff.
You will hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or an equivalent qualification, and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration. You will also be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). These qualifications will be supported by your relevant, contemporary and advanced experience in the care of older persons with psychiatric disorders, including dementia. Displaying a high level of professional judgement and medical competence, you will possess strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
