Hunter New England Imaging service is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified consultant to the Director of Interventional Radiology role. Applicants must have a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.


The Director of Interventional Radiology will lead and manage a safe, effective and efficient Interventional Radiology service with Hunter New England Imaging, fulfilling the Hunter New England Local Health District's (HNELHD) strategic and operational plans, committed to Excellence, Every Patient, Every Time.


The role will also provide medical services to patients of the Interventional Radiology service including outpatients referred to the Medical Imaging service. The position will take a role in strategic development, clinical improvement, education and quality and safety initiatives within Interventional Radiology for HNELHD.


Hunter New England Imaging comprises of the Division of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, which together provide a complete range of imaging modalities including Nuclear Medicine, General Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Tomography, Angiography, Interventional procedures, MRI and Ultrasound.

  • Senior Medical Officer with current authority to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist's State Award
  • Must hold a current radiation license in NSW as issued by the EPA and demonstrated clinical experience in interventional radiology, and/or having completed a fellowship in interventional imaging including knowledge of the appropriate safety, legislative, statutory and learned college requirements for the provision of interventional radiology services
  • Credentialed for Tier B interventional procedures as per IRSA/RANZCR
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with teams to support and optimise their capacity to deliver services
  • Demonstrated ability to actively seek out improvements to service delivery, initiate change and consult with those affected by the changes; allocate resources and proactively manage potential conflicts
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in, budgeting, financial planning and performance to achieve financial goals in the organisation and to recommend types and levels of service, coordinate services, allocate resources, negotiate with stakeholders and monitor service delivery within a division to ensure that services are delivered in alignment with organisational goals
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of, and experience in, governance and risk management principles and practices to achieve goals of the organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of the operating environment and methodologies to design and deliver effective workplace systems that link disparate systems
