Town Information
Charters Towers which is situated inland in the Burdekin River Valley, about 130kms southwest from the coastal port of Townsville via the Flinders Highway. Charters Towers is at an altitude of 336 metres has an excellent climate - clear, semi-arid, sunlit winter days and cool to warm summer evenings.
Charters Towers is a heritage city of approximately 10,000 people and about 2,000 of that represents the students at the three major boarding colleges in town (P-12).
There are also 3 state primary schools and 1 state high school. The city services a large gold mining industry and a very large beef cattle industry including may home-stay properties.

Charters Towers has many amenities including a first class theatre, gym, tennis clubs, golf course, netball, soccer, league and rugby clubs. The Burdekin River offers fishing, canoeing and camping for an outdoor lifestyle, a short drive away to the Burdekin Dam caters for water skiing and fishing enthusiasts.
NAPHL (Northern Australian Primary Health Limited) and NWRH (North West Remote Health) provide support including visiting Allied Health workers and Aboriginal Health workers.

The practice is a mixed billing group practice. We provide Childhood & Travel immunisations; health checks; skin checks, treatment and removal of moles and sunspots. Family planning, pap smears, pregnancy test, Industrail medicals, workcover, ECGs, spirometry, hearing tests Home & RACF visits. Charters Towers Hospital is situated approximately 800metres from Gold City Medical centre.
The hospital has 3 Full time GPs on staff. Charters Towers Hospital provides the following services:
Medical - full range of medical problems seen in rural populations
Surgical - visiting surgeons from Townsville provide consultations and treatment on a fortnightly basis
Obstetrics/Gynaecology - Antenatal & postnatal care; delivery of uncomplicated pregnancy; Women's clinic and Midwife group
Orthopaedic - visiting orthopaedic surgeon provide consultations monthly clinic
Cardiac - a visiting cardiologist from TTH provide consultations monthly
Respiratory - a visiting respiratory physician consultations monthly
Paediatrician - a visiting paediatrician provide consultations and in-service to staff at Hospital Doctors, GPs and nurses in Charters Towers area.
Anaesthetics - full and local anaesthetics available
Emergency - all emergencies from our practice are referred to local hospital. Evacuation via ambulance Helicopter occurs on a regular basis. Road ambulance transfer occur on a daily basis
Mental Health - Mental health at the hospital included social workers, child psychologist, adult psychologist and visiting child and adult psychiatrist.

After Hours requirements
Urgent medical care is available on a 24 hour 7 days a week basis. On call one night during the weekday; On call roster for weekends depending on Doctors available (1 in 4). The after hours telephone is diverted to your personal mobile. Home visits and RACF visits are offered at our practice.
