The practice is well equipped with all relevant medical equipment, including an Occupational health room (with audio booth and spirometry) and an emergency/treatment room for minor procedures. The practice is fully accredited with our most recent review in 2013. There is a 24/7, 7 days a week on-call commitment- for incidents relating to the mine and the community. The on-call work load at present is very modest.
About Glenden,
This is a close-knit community which was initially established in the 1980's as a purpose-built residential mining town. The town is a 2hr drive inland from Mackay which is the closest city and referral centre. The current township population is somewhere around 1000- there has been a drop since the mining downturn. Residents are predominantly mine employees and their young families. The town has all the essentials including a post office, bakery, IGA, pharmacy, dentist, library, news agents, pool, pub, bowls club, tennis courts, gym, cafe, service station and both a primary and High School. There is a real sense of community spirit and this is a very safe town which attracts many families.
Position Description:
There is an hour for lunch each day. The doctor is on call for the coal mine only and not on call for the community. The practice has very low patient numbers. Fights and accommodation are supplied with the Doctor flying into Mackay and driving to Glenden. Remuneration is $9500 per week.
