About the role

We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our new Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will deliver high-quality clinical assessments, therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused support to people experiencing severe and complex mental ill health, dual disabilities and psychosocial challenges.

Whether you are a new graduate or an experienced clinician, you will:

Conduct comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments, including functional and sensory assessments
Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to individual client needs
Support clients through person-centred, strengths-based and recovery-oriented practice
Develop support plans, treatment plans and short-term interventions aligned with best practice
Provide care coordination, advocacy and referrals to community and clinical supports
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and alongside families, carers and external stakeholders

About the service

The Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a welcoming, low-stigma alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing distress or crisis. Delivered in partnership with Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, the centre operates 7 days per week and offers clinical, non-clinical, outreach and telehealth support, connecting people to ongoing services including AOD, housing and community supports.

What you’ll bring

Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy, with current or eligible for AHPRA registration.
Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex needs using recovery-oriented approaches
Strong skills in assessment, therapeutic planning and recovery-oriented practice.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, with strong organisational, communication, and advocacy skills.
