About the Role

CareSouth have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the CareSouth Illawarra Clinical team.

The role of an Occupational Therapist requires you to work with young people and their families to support participation in their daily activities, including self-care, leisure, education and social connectedness. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes psychologists, speech pathologists and social workers. You will be required to complete assessment, both informal and standardized, to identify areas of strength, difficulty and underlying factors contributing to any identified participation difficulties. You will work with the young person and their network (including families, case workers, teachers and other allied practitioners) to identify solutions to implement environmental recommendations, activity modification, therapies to support skill attainment, and acquisition of low cost equipment.

We are looking for an individual with:

  • Experience working with Children and Young People and Disabilities
  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of young people and their families
  • A holistic mindset to look at the bigger picture when identifying participation barriers
  • Compassion, patience, creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm to help young people and their families achieve their goals
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • An understanding of NDIS                            

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people and people with a disability.
  • Tertiary qualifications in allied health or relevant field (occupational therapy)
  • Registration AHPRA or with the relevant professional association.
  • Experience working as a clinician
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and skills in a specific clinical specialty.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based practice, as well as family and person centred approaches.
  • Experience in working within clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management frameworks.
  • Experience in critical reflection, applying theoretical frameworks and referring to research and literature to inform clinical practice.
  • Driver’s licence.
  • Willing to undergo a National Police Check and (NSW) Working with Children Check clearance and/ (ACT) Working with Vulnerable People card.
