About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Pathologist to join our inclusive, compassionate and friendly team based in Wooloowin, Brisbane. This position is full-time, fixed term until 31 December 2024.  Extension of employment contract beyond this date is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

Help children to have better access to their education by providing high quality assessment and therapeutic speech pathology services to children and young people within the Specialist Disability Support in Schools (SDSS) Program.

About the Specialist Disability Support in Schools (SDSS) Program:  The SDSS program is a multidisciplinary team that delivers interventions to children within their school environment, improving educational access and positive outcomes for students who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect.

Key responsibilities…

  • Deliver outstanding therapeutic services to children and young people.
  • Enhance communication skills improving psychosocial and developmental outcomes for children and young people impacted by trauma.
  • Provide specialised developmental and trauma-informed consultancy in the area of speech pathology to team members, parents, carers and across the SDSS program and school personnel.
  • Conduct high quality, trauma-informed speech pathology services to children, in both individual and group settings.
  • Encourage and strengthen supportive relationships between children and the key adult caregivers including educational staff.
  • Work with SDSS team members and other professionals to enhance student outcomes.

About you... 

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology.
  • Membership with Speech Pathology Australia and hold Certified Practising Speech Pathology (CPSP) status.
  • At least two years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or experienced abuse and neglect, or more than two years’ experience working in similar role.
  • Ability to complete high quality and rigorous discipline specific assessments and reports.
  • Clinical and therapeutic understanding of the impacts of trauma on child and family functioning and knowledge of current trauma treatment trends.
  • Experience providing individual and group therapy to children, young people and their families.
  • Expertise in child development and assessing functioning and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Experience in collaborative case management both within a multi-disciplinary team and with external stakeholders.
  • High level of cultural awareness and an understanding of how to work with families from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Other requirements

  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Applicants must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
  • Fully vaccinated with the prescribed doses of an approved vaccine against COVID-19 or have an approved medical exemption.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6 under the SCHCADS award,
  • Salary range is $92,704 - $96,805 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
