Hunter Hand & Upper Limb Therapy was established in 1992 in parallel with a busy sub-specialist surgical practice. Over many years now our expertise in the management of shoulder, elbow and hand has grown. Our staff turnover is very low. We are co-located with two busy upper limb surgeons and constantly interact with them in the conservative management, as well as the peri and post operative management, of our clients. We have a unique opportunity to be involved pre operatively, immediately post operatively in the private hospital setting and then continue until the client is fully rehabilitated.
Our practice is building a computerised database and is involved actively in clinical research. We are aligned with Newcastle Orthopaedic Research Institute.
Our philosophy is to carefully educate our clients so that they have a clear understanding of their condition and train them in a home rehabilitation program which is progressed as appropriate.
Our organisation is at a point where we need an experienced therapist with a particular interest or expertise in management of the upper limb. The right applicant would be able to start in a part-time position. Depending on level of expertise and suitability, it may be that this could be progressed to full-time fairly quickly. There would be potentially an opportunity to build into a management role within the organisation. The right applicant would need to have a commitment to ongoing education and work towards a membership of appropriate sub-speciality groups or higher education.
Ongoing mentoring would be provided in a supportive team environment with two senior physiotherapists. Our surgeons, of course, provide regular input to our patient care but regard likewise our contribution and insights as vital to the best outcome for our shared clients.
Our referral base is broad. We have a strong word-of-mouth following but receive referrals from other surgeons and general practitioners.
The practice is open weekdays and hours of work are flexible.
