Job Type: 12 month fixed term contract

Hours: Full Time

After Hours Requirements: 
 
No on-call or after hours. Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm.

This organisation works with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and relevant key stakeholders to increase access to culturally safe, coordinated, holistic comprehensive primary health care services. We focus on the management and prevention of chronic disease in the of the Fraser Coast Region.

Position Description:

This is a newly funded role under Local Thriving Communities Social and Emotional Wellbeing to support initiatives that are co-designed with local leadership to:

  • improve mental health and social and emotional wellbeing outcomes.
  • respond to substance misuse.
  • reduce rates of suicide in Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

As the Psychologist, you will be required to provide clinical advice and support to managers and other staff and work on an individual basis to provide high level clinical consultations and therapeutic support to individuals and families to address mental health and wellbeing needs in an ethical and effective manner.

The Psychologist will be responsible for providing clinical consultations and therapeutic supports to individuals, carers and families as part of an integrated service response, as well as conducting psychological assessments for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of culturally appropriate evidence-based assessment and intervention appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people 
    • undertake psychological assessments with clients including, including children, young people and families;
    • design, evaluate and assist in the implementation of evidence based psychological interventions.
    • Prepare and assist in the implementation and review of individual plans for clients; and
    • consult and liaise regularly with families, carer’s advocates and significant others.
  • Support integrated/coordination of treatment and referral pathways 
  • Provide advocacy and support for clients
  • Support the integrated/coordination of treatment and referral pathways
  • Actively engage with community, Managers and a broad range of key stakeholders around the co-design of the program
  • Use various data information systems to identify gaps in clinical care, prioritise, plan and implement activities within a multidisciplinary team to improve data and health outcomes
    • Contemporaneously documenting and record keeping relevant and complete in a timely manner 
  • Delivery of trauma informed training sessions/workshops (this may be outsourced)
  • Provision of comprehensive health promotion practices and education and reporting
    • number of sessions/workshops held, 
    • service providers engaged and 
    • outcomes if available

Key Requirements:

Essential

  • Current general registration as a psychologist with AHPRA. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families and children specifically in relation to the placement of Aboriginal children and young people in Out of Home care.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based assessment and intervention skills covering a broad range of presentations.
  • Ability to use standardised psychometric assessments to evaluate and provide recommendations regarding a patient’s cognitive, affective, and behavioural/functional ability. 
  • Knowledge and ability to provide psycho-educational and therapeutic group programs to children, parents, and family groups.
  • Delivery of culturally appropriate evidence-based assessment and intervention appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people
  • Ability to develop and implement treatment and recovery plans for individuals, groups and families as required.
  • Proficiency in report writing and demonstrated ability to develop, organise and maintain records and case notes in a timely manner.

Desirable

  • Proven clinical leadership skills with expertise in client centred consultancy, with the ability to implement changes, and develop service direction using evidence-based research.
  • Experience around delivering education and training sessions/workshops to stakeholders.
  • Experience in community and stakeholder engagement (including enhancing community engagement and awareness of issues related to patient and community wellbeing)
