Psychologist (Part-time Contractor)

About us

Veteran Health Association (VHA) has been providing high quality health care to veterans for more than 5 years. Our Better Life Program, which we deliver across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and northern NSW is firmly established as a leading and trusted front-line service for veterans.

Our multidisciplinary team of psychologists, exercise physiologists, and physiotherapists work together with consulting medical practitioners to develop individualised treatment plans that meet the specific needs of program participants. Our service focuses on maximising physical and mental health so program participants can:

  • gain a better understanding of their concerns and conditions.
  • learn and practise effective and practical techniques within and outside the treatment setting; and
  • maintain their treatment gains.
  • We are currently looking for a Psychologist Contractor to join our team to deliver VHA's Better Life Program on the Gold Coast.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

    • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Effectively communicate with our veteran clients.
    • Identify client-orientated goals and promote the development of self-efficacy to achieve said goals.
    • Maintain timely and accurate consultation notes, documentation, and reports.
    • Work comfortably in a health club-based setting.
    • Commence part-time with the possibility of moving to a full-time basis.

To be successful in the role, you will possess:

    • Full registration as a psychologist with AHPRA.
    • Eligibility to obtain a Medicare provider number.
    • The ability to work effectively in a team, alongside other allied health and medical professionals.
    • Knowledge regarding ethical decision-making and managing dual/multiple relationships.
    • Experience in aggression de-escalation and conflict resolution.
    • Experience in crisis intervention and management.
    • Good relationship-building capacity and a friendly approach to clients and colleagues.
    • Openness to developing and delivering client workshops and/or team training.
    • ABN and professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
    • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or willingness to complete certificates before onboarding.
    • A current driver’s licence and own car.
    • Willingness to work across multiple locations.
    • Experience in working with veteran community desirable.
    • A keen interest and/or background in health and fitness desirable.

In return, you will be offered:

    • Strong support from the organisation and multidisciplinary team.
    • A dynamic and rewarding work environment.
    • An established client base.
    • Generous contracting rates.
    • Health club access.
