About Department
The Speech Pathology Department is committed to providing high quality Speech Pathology services to patients with communication and swallowing disorders at St. Vincent’s. The Speech Pathology team provides services across the continuum of care, over multiple campuses and coordinates the Deaf and Hard of Hearing service.

About the Role
Due to staff relocating interstate, there are two full time permanent speech pathology roles available at St Vincent's HospitalThe Grade 2 Speech Pathologist is responsible for assessment and management of communication, and swallowing disorders in referred patients in the acute or subacute setting. This position is also responsible for clinical supervision of junior staff, the supervision speech pathology students and the provision of education to teams and wards. This position may be required to work at any campus as directed by the speech pathology manager.

 

Classifications for this position will range from Speech Pathologist Grade 2 VW1 - VW4 ($81,300 - $93,400 per annum).


Duties

  • Assessing and managing patients in accordance with up-to-date knowledge of departmental clinical policies and guidelines,  and currently accepted Speech Pathology Australia professional standards of practice
  • Implementing speech pathology services that are based on the latest available evidence
  • Participating in quality improvement and research activities
  • Providing clinical supervision to Speech Pathology students
  • Providing supervision to Grade 1 Speech Pathology staff


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology), or Bachelor of Speech Pathology or equivalent
  • Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia and commitment to Speech Pathology Australia’s Code of Ethics
  • At least 4 years’ experience in clinical adult speech pathology
  • Experience in speech pathology management of patients with disorders of communication, cognition and swallowing in a hospital setting, including videofluoroscopy assessment
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills incorporating excellent communication, organisational and negotiation skills
