VMO – General Practice – Non Procedural
A Visiting Medical Officer is required to provide non procedural GP services at Tumbarumba Multi Purpose Service. The VMO will provide a high level of clinical care to patients and participate in the on call roster.
Tumbarumba is a F3 peer grouped 43 bed Multipurpose Service providing emergency, medical and residential aged care services, including palliative care and respite. Of the 43 beds, 33 are funded for residential aged care.
Community health services include generalist community nursing, child and family health, physical activity groups, and centre based day care. In addition there are a number of visiting services including a school dental service, dietitian, mental health/ drug and alcohol, radiography, physiotherapy, women’s health, speech pathology and some occupational therapy.
Tumbarumba is on the NSW MPS capital program for expansion. It is in the detailed planning stage to expand to 49 beds including 40 flexible residential aged care beds and nine inpatient beds.
Tumbarumba is situated on the western side of the Snowy Mountains in Southern New South Wales, with Kosciuszko National Park to the East and the Murray River to the South. With a population of just under 3,500 residents, Tumbarumba is halfway between Sydney and Melbourne via the Hume Highway, and is just under three hours from Canberra. Wagga Wagga is one hour’s drive from the town and the Selwyn Snowfields are also located only one hour away. In Tumbarumba there is a public and catholic primary school, a high school, child care facilities and before and after school care. Tumbarumba is perfect for people who love an active outdoor lifestyle and enjoy activities such as bush walking, horse riding, skiing, fishing and cycling. A CountryLink coach service operates six days per week to and from Tumbarumba, connecting to rail services destined for both Sydney and Melbourne via Cootamundra. There is also a coach service to and from Wagga Wagga three days per week. Qantaslink and Regional Express operate direct flights to Sydney and Melbourne from Wagga Wagga Airport on a daily basis.

The major industry in the town is softwood timber processing, with the Hyne and Sons Timber Mill to the west of the town being the biggest employer. Other industries include tourism, viticulture (Tumbarumba is in the Tumbarumba wine region), and blueberry growing.
