Many travel destinations expose people to unfamiliar environments. These risks are easily managed provided people have up to date pre-departure health information and correct immunisations. This seminar aims to update health professionals on what their patients require when they travel. Topics covered include Travel Advice for Children Under 12, Food and Water Borne Diseases, Mosquito Borne Diseases and Special Needs of the Diabetic Traveller.

Relevance to General Practice

Doctors are usually the front line people who can advise travellers on measures which can be taken to avoid infectious diseases that they may be exposed to while overseas. Many diseases which are a risk to travellers can be prevented by immunisation and this seminar will give GPs and health professional relevant and updated information on what people travelling will require to stay healthy during their time abroad. It is in the interest of individuals and the greater community to stay healthy and immunised whilst overseas to avoid infection.
