104647 - Basic Life Support (CPR)

  • : Online

To learn and demonstrate effective CPR & Basic Life Support in accordance with the ANZCOR 2016 Guidelines (Australian & New Zealand Committee On Resuscitation - formerly known as the ARC Guidelines).

This course involves an online component which must be completed prior to the practical assessment.

Relevance to General Practice

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills are used infrequently, and therefore may diminish over time (RACGP; https://www.racgp.org.au/education/qicpd-program/gps/cpr/). Maintaining frequent training updates are crucial to staying up-to-date on best practice and also for the competence of practicing these skills if and when they may be required. The chances of survival can be greatly improved if the trained rescuer has the practical skill as well as the knowledge to act appropriately and quickly to the emergency. The RACGP minimum requirements are to complete CPR competence every 3 years (RACGP; https://www.racgp.org.au/education/qicpd-program/gps/cpr/), though IntelliLearn recommends yearly updates in line with other Medical Professions.
