  • : Online

Relevance to General Practice

General Practitioners or family physicians are usually the first contact with the health system and they can play a key role in the prevention of mental illness and the treatment of common mental health problems. It is therefore crucial to understand and meet the needs of these professionals. Consultations revealed a lack of knowledge among the community and providers in relation to appropriate responses to suicide risk, including knowledge of existing support services. There is an acknowledgement that there is limited support and assistance/training provided to GPs in managing suicide and mental health crisis.
