Shortness of breath in children is a common presentation to GPs. This education offers a systematic approach based on age of presentation, acute or persistent symptoms, and a combined anatomical and physiological framework to rapidly narrow down the many possibilities. The education will include the appropriate investigations to which a GP will have access, as well as recommending which children to refer, and to whom.

Learning outcomes
  • On completion of this activity, the participant will be able to discuss the conditions causing shortness of breath in children.
  • On completion of this activity, the participant will be able to describe the treatment of exercise induced asthma.
  • On completion of this activity, the participant will be able to explain the indications for specialist referral in a child with shortness of breath.
