112013 - Remote Emergency Care Course (REC)
The Remote Emergency Care Course (REC) is designed to enable the health workforce to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to respond with confidence to emergency situations and to deliver safe and quality care in the remote and rural setting.
REC is designed to meet the learning needs of the remote and isolated health workforce who maybe required to provide emergency care to the critically ill or injured.
GPs in rural and remote areas require a higher level of emergency care skills due to lower numbers of GPs, reduced access to specialist services, and the logistic and geographic difficulties of evacuating seriously ill patients. There is also a higher incidence of farming, mining, industrial and motor vehicle accidents, as well as greater access to firearms in isolated areas. GPs may also be required to treat acute conditions outside of the practice or hospital setting, such as a collapse on a street or an accident site.
