112917 - Advanced Workshop of Non-Scalpel Vasectomy

  • : Online

This workshop is a practical introduction to this advanced procedure of vasectomy for male fertility control. Learn a step by step guide to the procedure, patient counselling techniques, interactive case studies and the opportunity to practice on simulated models. Further clinical training is available for GPs who attend this course.

Relevance to General Practice

In Australia, vasectomies are performed in general practices, family planning centres, hospital outpatient clinics, day surgeries and general hospitals. Vasectomy is the only method of male contraception that is both highly effective and well accepted by patients... vasectomy is regarded as simpler, faster, safer and less expensive.
1.Vasectomy is one of the commonest surgical procedures performed, providing a simple, safe and efficient means of contraception. A new, `minimally invasive, no scalpel, no suture' (MINS) technique has been adopted in some parts of the Far East and the USA, following its introduction in China (by Li Shun-Quiang) in 1974. This technique is claimed to reduce operative time and patient morbidity when compared with a standard vasectomy. [2].Ref: Apichart Nirapathpongpom. Huber DH. Krieger JN.
