114354 - Cultural Perspective: Working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients in General Practice

  • : Online

A 6 hour workshop focussing on cultural perspectives of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in General Practice and Primary healthcare.

Relevance to General Practice

Research shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience a burden of disease that is two and a half times that of other Australians. A large part of the burden of disease is due to chronic illness such as diabetes, chronic Heart disease, cancer, kidney disease and sexualy transmitted diseases.
The Council of Australian governments' Closing the Gap report includes priorities of making Indigenous Health 'everyone's business', delivering effective primary Healthcare services and better coordinating the patient journey through the health system.
