  • : Online

This online video of Cabrini's GP lecture is available for GP's via https://praxhub.com. The lecture entitled Advances in Radiation Oncology is designed to educate GP's on current processes involved from consultation to treatment in Radiation Oncology. How to identify different radiation therapy techniques that are used in treating skin cancer and the best follow up care plans for managing potential side effects from radiation therapy to the skin

Relevance to General Practice

Radiation therapy uses high-energy ionising radiation to destroy the DNA of cancer cells, and can be used to cure cancers, either alone or in conjunction with surgery or chemotherapy. According to the available evidence, one in two patients with cancer in Australia would benefit from receiving radiation therapy as part of their treatment. Ensuring that patients have access to these advances in radiation therapy is a key priority in Australian cancer planning.
It is important that the wider medical community is given the opportunity to understand these advances and the opportunities they offer patients. The landscape of radiation treatment will continue to evolve in the coming years, and it is the aim of radiation oncologists in Australia and New Zealand, through Targeting Cancer, to ensure that all patients are given equitable access to this highly beneficial treatment.
