Graves’ disease and multinodular goitre are the most common causes of hyperthyroidism. It is important to determine the underlying aetiology of hyperthyroidism to guide management and prognosis. Antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine and surgery remain the treatment options for Graves’ disease and toxic multinodular goitres. Thyroiditis management is targeted at symptom control and antithyroid medication is not warranted.
