This webcast is designed to provide the most up-to-date information, latest research and practical information regarding COPD – Device Workshop, Closing the Gap on Immunisation and the most recent developments regarding Meningitis Prevention. This is a webcast of three lectures recorded from a day conference to make the material available to rural GPs.

Relevance to General Practice

Inhaler device confusion is a real issue in primary care for which GP's need expert advice. A practical guide on how to correctly use and instruct patients on the wide variety of COPD inhaler devices that are now available in Australia. Advice on how to select devices that are best suited to needs of patients and hence better compliance and therapeutic outcome. Unlike paediatric populations, adult vaccination coverage is significantly below target for many vaccine preventable preventable infectious diseases especially for older patients. GP's will revise the vaccines available and the various age and risk groups for whom they are applicable. Misconceptions and system issues preventing better vaccine coverage of each practice population will be addressed. Current prevalence of meningitis and relevant bacterial Strains in high risk populations such as infants and teenagers will be described. Appropriate and up to date information on immunisation regimes for these groups will be given.
