Epistaxis presents along a spectrum of severity and the majority of cases can be appropriately managed in the community. However, while most epistaxis is idiopathic, it is important to recognise that epistaxis may be a presenting symptom for a more serious underlying condition and where suspicion exists referral to an appropriate specialist may be required.

Learning outcomes

  • On completion of this activity, the participant will be able to describe the aftercare following control of epistaxis.
