154374 - Paediatric Orthopaedic Management: Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip & Scoliosis

  • : Online

This activity is the third instalment of a comprehensive three part series covering common orthopaedic conditions that affect infancy, childhood and adolescence. Part three covers developmental dysplasia of the hips (DDH) and scoliosis. This activity aims to provide GPs with the tools to assess and manage these conditions, to appropriately refer to an orthopaedic specialist for further treatment and communicate appropriate advice to parents.

Relevance to General Practice

General practitioners have a critical role in the early recognition and ongoing management of DDH and spinal curves in children. In order to successfully manage these children who present with such conditions, GPs need to be able to conduct a physical examination, assess the child’s range of motion and identify the differential diagnoses. Understanding these assessment and management principals will decide how GPs should intervene and direct the child with structural abnormalities to an orthopaedic specialist. This educational activities aims to address these key areas for effective GP decision-making and management.
