The aim of the education activity is to increase GP's knowledge of appropriate medical imaging referrals specifically relating to shoulder, ankle and knee injuries by presenting relevant case studies, discussing management and non-invasive options.

Relevance to General Practice

Musculoskeletal conditions are the third most common reason for patients seeking a consultation with a General Practitioner in Australia. Shoulder conditions are in the top three of this group. In order to successfully manage these conditions GPs require information on updates in management which meet best practice.

Learning outcomes
  • To identify the most appropriate investigations for the diagnosis and management of common Shoulder, Knee and Ankle complaints
  • To discuss the role of MRI in the primary care setting to assist GPs in the accurate diagnosis and management of patients
  • To apply new advances in medical imaging in the management of patients presenting with common Shoulder, Knee and Ankle complaints
