162679 - 2019 MPS Skin Cancer Conference

  • : Online

This seminar will provide training and comprehensive guidelines to general practitioners on the diagnosis and treatment of various types of skin cancer as well as information on histopathology report formats and terminology.
Practical instruction on dermatoscopy and excision / suturing will be provided by experts in these fields.

Relevance to General Practice

The most common and successful treatment for skin cancer is surgical removal by a qualified and experienced doctor, either GP or specialist. However these procedures are usually only carried out if the lesion is large, suspicious in appearance or has spread beyond the surface of the skin. There are a number of surgical options available to the treating physician as well as non-surgical options such as Imiquimod and photodynamic therapy. GPs often find themselves in situations where they are required to make a judgement on the most appropriate form of treatment for the patient depending on their provisional diagnosis and the size, location and appearance of the skin lesion.
The seminar will aid GPs to refine their clinical diagnostic skills through panel discussions, case presentations and key note speakers. It will also help the GP to practice and refine their practical skills in dermatoscopy and suturing / excision.

Learning outcomes
  • Recognise key features in the dermatoscopic analysis of pigmented and non-pigmented lesions
