Relevance to General Practice

The prevalence of mental ill health is at least two to three times higher in people with intellectual disability (ID) compared to the the general population. Many people people with ID experience a high level of complexity and an atypical profile and presentation of mental illness thus requiring a high level of expertise and coordinated approaches between health providers and services.
