Increase awareness of the role GPs play in assessing and diagnosing atrial fibrillation (AF), and improve clinician awareness of current gaps in their professional knowledge base and skills in this area.

Relevance to General Practice

It is estimated that atrial fibrillation (AF) accounts for ~1.3% of GP encounters, and is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in Australia.1 AF can markedly impair quality of life through symptoms such as palpitations, fatigue and dyspnoea. However, it is a condition that is often missed, as vague presenting symptoms may be confused with other conditions and or symptoms of comorbidities such as hypertension, heart failure and diabetes
