187442 - Planning teaching

  • : Online

The aim of this unit is to enhance understanding of the principles of adult learning and to apply these to the variable context in which medical educators teach.

Relevance to General Practice

Medical education is a complex and often challenging task, especially when many clinicians take on the task without adequate preparation or not even having had sufficient orientation to medical education. As a medical educator, there is much more to teaching than simply being a medical expert and the transfer of information. A number of different competencies are required. Teaching is often in the clinical setting and focused on the application of medical knowledge to clinical care. This unit is primarily for those who have little or no experience in medical education and who would like to become more involved in it.
