This course provides medical practitioners with an introduction to Women’s Reproductive and Sexual Health with an aim to provide foundation skills to those with limited experience in the Australian context. It has a strong focus on physical examination techniques and communication skills.
The course covers a broad range of topics including taking a sensitive sexual health history; breast, pelvic and speculum examination skills; violence against women; sex and the law; unintended pregnancy; LGBTIQ health; sexually transmissible infections; menopause; cervical screening and contraception.

Relevance to General Practice

This course provides knowledge and skills that all GPs require to practice in women's reproductive and sexual health with an emphasis on communication skills and sensitive examination skills, in a safe and supported environment. Strategies to provide non-judgmental care are explored and practiced. Women's reproductive and sexual health presentations are common in general practice and it is also important to be proactive in offering preventative care for women. This course is relevant to GPs who wish to gain foundation skills in women's reproductive and sexual health, including international medical graduation, those working towards Fellowship and those who have had limited recent experience in women's health and wish to develop their practice.
