Relevance to General Practice
The RACGP acknowledges that the ‘general practice management of women’s health involves a holistic patient centered approach to the physical, mental and emotional health of women, their families, and their relationships. Women’s health needs to be understood in the context of their psychosocial and cultural environment’ (RACGP 2011).
The obstetric share care module involves a holistic patient-centered approach to the assessment and management of women’s pregnancy period.
- Perform an initial antenatal assessment including identifying potential risk factors for mother and baby.
- Undertaking routine screening and providing counselling around issues identified.
- Recognises and manages antenatal presentations across all trimesters of pregnancy with an awareness of own knowledge, skills and limitations.
- Provides advice and information regarding community support services for the post-natal period.
