To provide General Practitioners in the WentWest region with training on CPR & AED Training as per the RACGP requirements for the 2014 – 2016 triennium.

Relevance to General Practice

CPR & AED Training is a requirement of being registered with the RACGP. CPR is an emergency procedure for manually preserving brain function until further measures to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest. It is indicated in those who are unresponsive with no breathing or abnormal breathing. This training will focus on the first aid principles, vital signs, unresponsiveness, ventilation and compressions skills as well as using the automatic defibrillator.

Learning outcomes
  • Assess a scene and identify the casualties vital signs
  • Recall and perform the first aid principles of the DRABCD procedure
  • Demonstrate steps in the recommended care of an unconscious casualty
  • Perform CPR using both ventilation and compression skills
  • Effectively use an Automatic Defibrillator
