85841 - Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine Module 2: Clinical Aviation Medicine

  • : Online

The Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine aims to provide a basic knowledge of civil aviation medicine, enabling medical practitioners to perform medical examinations on pilot licence holders, give relevant advice to aircrew and air traffic service officers, and make appropriate decisions on aircrew medical fitness for flying status. This certificate is a minimum prerequisite for appointment as a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA).

Relevance to General Practice

The course meets the needs of both medical practitioners and CASA. In so doing, it is central to the medical certification system. As such, graduates of the course are able to play vital and essential roles in minimizing the risks to the travelling public of an in-flight medical event leading to incapacitation of the pilot, as well as enhancing the overall safety of the air transport system in Australia.

Learning outcomes
  • Participants will be able to explain clinical aviation medicine, including passenger fitness to fly
  • Participants will be able to describe the CASA requirements for aircrew certification.
  • Participants will be able to define aviation patient safety
