98956 - Rural Emergency Skills Training (REST)

This course was delveloped by rural GPs in response to an identified need 
for a course covering the skills needed to manage a range of emergency 
scenarios that may arise in a rural and remote setting. 

The Rural Emergency Skills Training (REST) program is conducted by trained 
emergency medicine instructors experienced in rural general practice.

Learning outcomes
  • Through participation GP's will have gained the knowledge and enhanced specific skills related to the initial assessment & stabilisation of EM presentations
  • On completion GP's will have modelled the critical thinking required for the structured approach to care for the critically ill or injured patient.
  • By taking part a GP will be able to continue to practice and prepare for future emergency presentations with increased confidence
  • By completing REST the GP will bring about change in attitude and approach to emergency presentations when faced with EM situations in their normal environment
  • Will generate the confidence in the use of a structured approach and skills in emergency care by use of simulation scenarios on completion of the course.
