99781 - Acute Life-threatening Emergencies, Recognition & Treatment (ALERT) Course

  • : Online

This course is designed to provide clinicians with essential skills relating to the assessment & management of patients who are experiencing life threatening emergencies.
The two day program will cover a variety of clinical conditions, which if not recognised & treated promptly may result in either death or significant morbidity for the patient.

Relevance to General Practice

GP's and practice nurses will often be faced with patients who present with one of the conditions covered in this course. If they practice in a hospital environment they also need to care for patients who either develop some of the conditions as inpatients, or who present to the emergency department. Early recognition and appropriate management reduces the morbidity and mortality of the conditions.

Learning outcomes
  • Describe aspects of clinical deterioration with respect to conditions covered by course & describe the appropriate treatment.
  • Describe the assessment & management of the patient with respiratory problems such as hypoxaemia, hypercarbia, & tension pneumothorax.

  • Describe the assessment (including signs & symptoms) & management of the patient with Diabetic emergencies.
  • Describe the assessment & management of the patient who has been, or may have been envenomated.
