Dominant, Recessive and Beyond: How Genetic Conditions Are Inherited course for Medical Doctors
This course explores how genetic conditions are inherited and how to recognise the common modes of inheritance in a family history.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- explain the difference between a germline and a somatic variant;
- describe the common modes of inheritance for genetic conditions;
- identify the most likely mode of inheritance based on the pattern of affected people in a family history; and
- calculate the recurrence risks for autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and X-linked conditions.
The session will also cover how the recurrence risks are calculated for each type of inheritance.
